Final Relevance

The relevance of black studies is important and should be emphasized on more in are society . I have learned many new things from my experiences in the class . I will pass them on to others and tell them how they need to take a African American studies course . It really doesn’t matter if your African American or white or whatever ethnicity the relevance is still the same . You learn some many life stories and lessons from the information obtained from the course . The groups have been doing a very good job of explaining the different side and parts of African American history . How it has evolved from the past to the present . Even though sometimes I hated doing the blogs or the assignments I really benefited so much from the assignments . I really cant even see all the benefits I have received rite now because there are so many . The things I have learned in the course will carry over into my other studies . Especially the information we learned from the speakers also listening to there life stories about there drive to achieve . The fact that you should never give up and also have a plan plus make goals for yourself in that plan to make sure you are still on track . The class as a whole has been amazing even though I came into the class thinking it was going to be a cake walk . I was proven wrong on the first week ! Which I still enjoyed the class and are teachers excitement about the topics or subjects being taught in class that day . Also how the class really wasn’t like a lector were we would have to take notes everyday .Except it was more of a discussion class which students got more involved plus took in more information . Since we were interacting with one another . Every thing kind of just went together with are presentations and group projects they all contain interaction with are peers which made the setting a lot more comfortable for the presenters . So with all this being said it all goes back to the relevance of learning these studies . The class will be a lot more appealing to others if they knew all the things that would happen in the class. The easier ways of learning involved in the course . A lot of students think the class may be challenging due to the lack information about African American history. The class makes the learning process a lot easier and comfortable for the students involved in the course. So I would suggest this class for a lot of other students who have a lack of information about African American history . That are also interested in learning about the relevance and importance of African American history . I really enjoyed this course and I appreciate everything you have done for me ms flippin god bless !!

My perception of the media has been influenced from these images . Which I already had some views about the media . Like how they always try to find the most ignorant African American to interview if something happened in a pro dominantly black Area. I kinda look at the media in a very negative way for a while . Since they never really focused on the positive just empasized all on the negatives . Thats just news media tho . The T.V. comedies or other things on television are not that about giving negative impressions on the black family . I just think some things are over exaggerated . Which they could be very true but televisions takes it to another level to make it comical . Which is not a bad thing . I laugh at alot of things refering to the african american family because its not in a disrespectful manner . My views werent really changed form this project . I think they kinda stayed the same . In most cases T.V. can send you the wrong message about the african american family . Not negative but just you get the wrong idea or just stereotype everyone from what you see on t.v. Like some people believe all blacks drink and love Kool-aid . Which a majority may like it but t.v. gives you the image that all black do . Its a few other things That t.v. over does like that but not to much . Which most of the stereotypes we recieve about people majority of them come from television . Especially if we havent really interacted or being around people of that ethnicity . I would say im kinda in between on the views media or television gives you about the african american family . Just depends on the television program and whats being presented to the audience if I would agree or disagree . Over all I think its ok how they handle the situations and if its comical and not offending im fine with it .

Whats is Civil Rights ? and How the the Harlem Renaissance help African Americans

The harlem renaissance imspired a lot of people during that time . There were many great writers like Langston Hughes and Zora Neal Hurston . This was around the time a lot of African Americans were moving up north to find and better living . A lot of them settled in the harlem area . We Also had the birth of Jazz during the harlem renaissance period . Greats like Louie Armstrong would perform at the famous Cotton Club. This period showed the many talents of African Americans . It revealed the many things they could achieve at that time. It showed at completely new side to African Americans which helped out with there social status a little bit up north . The Civil rights movement was a group of people fighting for the equal rights we are supposed to receive according to the constitution of the United States over America. It was movement when hatred and racism was prolly at its peak in are country. Many organizations began to get involved in the process some of them including the NAACP and also the Black Panthers. Which alot of people believed the Death of Emmitt Till in 1955 sparked the Civil rights movement . Which occurred in Mississippi while we was visiting some relatives. The boy was shot in the Head and Brutully beaten beyond reconition because he spoke to a white woman . Which was a big problem in Mississippi . Since he was from the North he has white females friends that he would socialize with all the time . So he didn’t think I was a big deal but it was . The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee set the foundation and started the Civil right movement. They were famous for there sit ins also the push for voters rights in the south . The Group was non violent later on in the future . They started a Black Power movement . The group basically split in two with the two side having different beliefs. They really split after the Watts Riots in 1965 . Martin Luther king’s and Malcome’s struggles and seeing what was going around them made them want to make a chance for the on coming generations . They both had to different ways of doing so . Martin’s was through his voice and speeches . Malcom’s more of leading and showing people the way they should go . Niether one of them resulted to violent acts to get there point across . Which is a very big deal and a good thing . I believe the Civil Rights achieved some of the goals they wanted to achieve . They made some great changes happen . The civil rights movement is basically a life long battle . A lot of citizens are violated there rights on daily basis. So I would say the Civil rights movement was a successful but there still is a lot more work to be done in are present and future .

White Privilege Blog

The white privilege is a great article that gives examples about the certain privileges you can or will receive for your race. It was interesting how she used certain examples of privileges that she would have. But some of her co-workers would not because for the race. Like the author stated that she could easily have her voice heard in front of a committee since she is white. The other things she doesn’t have to worry about people thinking she is not in good terms financially. Which it’s a shame that people are stereotyped by there race’s. It’s just the world we live in now days. Everything is judged by the outside. An African American can be well of financially just like anyone else. The author also talked about the privileges of women compared to men. Which women still do get fewer privileges in the job market or in many other professions. I do agree that sometimes that are is not free like it is stated in the constitution. These types of things wouldn’t be happening in our country or society if it was free. It just seam’s the road to success is a lot easier for whites or just life as whole socially. As minorities you endure many obstacles everyday. Also you are judged by your appearance all the time. It just seems so unfair but that’s life. My mom always told me I would have to work twice as hard in this world just because I am an African American. The privileges should be the same or equal in our society but its not. The author really broke down what she would be able to get away with over here co-workers or friends who are black. I never really paid that much attention to those types of things until now. She had some great points demonstrating these facts. I have a new perception on the subject of privileges. They say we have a free country and everyone is free. But could I really get away with the things whites do and not be critized for my actions? I feel I could in some situations but in others I know or a fact I would not get the same response as a white person would. I’m not tying to sound racially bias but it’s just the society we live in. It doesn’t really matter how successful you get or how many accomplisments you achieve. When people first meet you they way you will be judged is by your race. This includes all people not just blacks.

Reflections on the NAACP

The NAACP has been very instrumental in the African American experience by helping people who have been violated of the rights written in your U.S. constitution . It gave people hope so when they were violated of there rights they felt in the end it would be justice in there favor . The Chapter in Oklahoma has contributed a great amount .`The court case in Oklahoma helped set the case of Brown vs. the board of education in Topeka Kansas. Which is one of the most popular cases presented by the NAACP. ( Google) The NAACP’s relevance to the legal movement is very strong and power. In almost every case or maybe all cases involving African Americans the NAACP was involved in 100 percent. The reconstruction period was one of the most important period’s in are countries history. It Was when Slavery was first abolished and the Compromise of 1877 was first established . So I guess you could say the reconstruction period was a great success. The Have programs that help all races in are society. The NAACP is just not for African Americans now its for all ethnicities . They help everyone who has been treat wrong or violated of there rights . The visitors we have had in class has really opened my eyes about certain things. I have a completely difference aspect of things in life now . Ranging from African American studies and the experience . Plus not to ever give up on my dreams just complete everything I need to do . So my dream could be a reality . The African American experience is wonderful I feel everyone should now about these incredible facts or events that have happened in the past , How a Group of people stood up for them selves until they where treated as equal’s. A lot of us take things granted and we really don’t appreciate what we have now . Because a lot of us in the generation prolly wouldn’t have made back then in that time . Those where some strong people who with stood a lot of turmoil to achieve a goal .

Jay-Z free write

Jay-Z has made many great accomplishments through his music and other talents he has . Alot of people say they are not a fan of his music . They dont like his style . But on the other hand . There are millions more who do love his music and likes the message that he sends to his audience. He is not a gangster like ice cube or game . He has his own style and the way he spits his music. Sending messages to kids about staying off the streets and going to school .Because its a hard knock life out there on these streets. Also he has used he music succes to make more great accompliments .Like starting his own clothing line . which has grew a great deal this past decade from selling varies things from clothes to cologne. Jay-z is also the fifrst hip hop artist to by an NBA franchise . The New Nets. His main goal is to bring them to brookyln or back to Brooklyn. He might even be the first african american NBa owner im not sure on that statistic . Now he has even moved on to better things like the automobile business. He had is own color made for cars . Which is called Jay-Z blue . How many african americans have accomplished such a thing ? I dont know any . Thats why Jay-z is a great role model for kids now a days to follow. Not even just kids adults as well. He sends great messages out through his music and as well by his actions
